MLA 2009 Poster MLA 2009 Handout During my trip to Chicago, I made a side trip to the Bowling Green State University's Music Library and Sound Archives, home to over one million recordings, including several in the Las Vegas discographies. Look for a lot of new information that wasn't available in previous updates! I was also fortunate to attend the Far West Popular Culture Association meeting in Las Vegas March 13-15, where I presented a paper on music and musicians in the Las Vegas showrooms and lounges ca. 1950-1980. While in Las Veagas, I finally had an opportunity to visit the relocated and refurbished former home of Sands Music Director, Antonio Morelli. The Junior League of Las Vegas has done an amazing job preserving this piece of local history. If you are in Las Vegas on April 2, the Junior League is sponsoring an educaitonal event with musicians who performed under Morelli's baton. It's at the Las Vegas Academy at 7:00 pm and will feature a performance of some of Morelli's repertoire by the Las Vegas Academy Jazz Band. The Morelli House is just down the street, and will be open for tours after the program. |
